Most NICs are capable of operating at either speed, but you should check to be sure before purchasing. Get cards capable of the 100-Mbps data rate -- the difference in cost is minimal. A 10-Mbps card costs about $15 to $40, and a 10/100-Mbps card costs about $25 to $50.
