Network
Equipment Basics
In
a standard, small network, each PC attached to the network must have its
own network interface card (NIC). These cards fit in the PCI or ISA slot
on a PC's motherboard, or, in the case of a notebook computer, the
PCMCIA slot.
Network Bridge Overview Microsoft The network bridge provides an inexpensive and easy way to connect network segments. To understand how the network bridge works, it is important to understand what a network segment is. A network segment is a single section of network media that connects computers. For example, suppose you have three computers: computer A, computer B, and computer C. Computer A has two Ethernet network adapters, and computers B and C have one Ethernet network adapter each. An Ethernet cable connecting A to B would create one network segment. An additional Ethernet cable connecting A to C would create a network segment.
Bridges D&M Electronics Originally designed to interconnect Ethernet segments together. Most bridges today support filtering and forwarding, as well as Spanning Tree Algorithm. The IEEE 802.1D specification is the standard for bridges.
