PC Postage™ Versus Metering

PC Postage offers an affordable alternative to meters, especially for small or home-based businesses.  Meters are leased and carry rental charges as high as $50 per month.  In addition, postage refills require the meter be reset by the U.S. Postal Service at the charge of $5-$10 each time. Then there’s still a maintenance agreement and special ink for the meter to think about.  PC Postage is available at a fraction of this cost.  See our Supplier Comparison for costs.

Unlike leasing meter equipment, there are no long-term contracts to sign with PC Postage suppliers, in fact, you are able to cancel anytime and receive a refund for any unused postage in your account (“free postage” may not be included and hardware costs may apply).

PC Postage products integrate into most word processing applications; printing the address and postage in one pass, from within your document.

One other note about the advantages of PC Postage over meters - online postage suppliers must include in their product a tamper resistant device, called a PSD, to keep track of postage accounts. When tampered with it will cease to operate. Meters, on the other hand, are tamper evident. They have to be examined before tampering is detected; meanwhile, they continue to print postage.
