How
It's Possible to
Print U.S. Postage From Your Computer
To
print postage from your computer you must have access to client
software interfacing with the security functions that make
printing indicia possible. These Security functions are performed
while on-line (over a secure server), or locally, with a piece of
hardware (called a Postal Security Device PSD) attached to a
communications port on your computer.
Client
software is used to enter the mail-to address, postage rate, and
date. The information is translated into a two dimensional barcode
with information such as postage value, license information,
licensing zip code, and digital signature. The 2-D barcode is
combined with human-readable information to create an indicia.
This is the information that is sent to your printer and is
applied to your mail piece qualifying it to be processed for
delivery by the USPS.
